3D printing arrives at the Alstom railway plant in Barcelona

Alstom

In a new commitment to 3D printing we learned that, on this occasion, it has been nothing less than Alstom, a company dedicated to the manufacture of trains, which has just announced that in its modernization and digitization of the Santa Perpètua de Mogoda factory (Barcelona), will bet on robotics, augmented reality and simulation, in turn accommodating 3D printing of certain parts and tools, 'big data' and the Internet of Things in their quest to improve processes and reduce both costs such as production times.

Thanks to this modernization of the factory, after the crisis started, Alstom has just announced the first increase in its workforce, which currently has 550 direct workers and 200 indirect to face the numerous projects that are currently underway, such as the manufacture of trams for Algeria, Sydney and Qatar or a metro for Guadalajara (Mexico), Santo Domingo and Panama.

As mentioned, in recent months these innovations have already reached the maintenance area where it has been possible to verify a improvement in productivity close to 5%. As expected and so has commented Antonio Moreno, president of Alstom Spain, the company's objective is to widely exceed this percentage by making all these improvements reach the rest of the factory departments.
