3D System announces that it is abandoning the use of FFF technology for its printers

3D System Cubepro

About us 3D System, specialized and leader in the design and manufacture of 3D printers, has just sent a notification to all its distributors where they announce their decision to put an end to all models that are manufactured today equipped with FFF technology. This decision comes just a few weeks after the Cube series, the main one affected, suffered a first cut where the most basic machines were eliminated from the catalog. Now it is finally the turn of the CubePro.

If we remember a little, we find that the Cube range came to 3D System after the acquisition in 2010 by this of the British company Bits From Bytes, a small startup at that time with a lot of potential that managed to market several models of low-cost 3D printers equipped with FFF technology. The main problem is that this technology belongs to Stratasys, the great rival in the world of 3D printing of 3D System.

3D System stops manufacturing all types of printers in its catalog equipped with FFF technology.

By acquiring Bits From Bytes, to expand its catalog quickly and easily, the 3D Touch, Rapman and BFB-3000 machines manufactured by the English company became directly the Cube series in 3D System. Thanks to these machines, the CubeX and CubePro soon saw the light, a model that even it was offered in a triple extrusion version. Let us remember that one of the negative points is that a new material limitation system was developed so that the Cube series machines could only use the cartridges marketed by 3D System.

At this point, tell you that, as it appears in the statement released by 3D System, the decision to stop manufacturing these 3D printers has been meditated for a long time by the leaders of the company. For now, only new units will stop being manufactured, so those that remain in stock will still be sold. If you are decided to buy a 3D System Cube, tell you that the company will continue to offer technical support and spare parts for machines under warranty until at least 1 November 2019 although possibly this time is extended.
