Cousteau's descendants to use 3D printing to save coral banks

Cousteau

No matter how young you are, surely on occasion you have heard of the French commander and oceanographer Jacques Cousteau. Many years after his death, fabien cousteau, one of his grandchildren, has just announced that his foundation will resort to 3D printing to successfully carry out a project where the coral preservation on the Caribbean island of Bonaire. If the project is successful, it could be extended to other coral banks located in various parts of the world that may be in danger.

Going into a little detail, tell you that fabien cousteau is a famous French filmmaker and ocean explorer currently residing in the United States. As we have already mentioned, he is the grandson of the famous Jaques-Yves Cousteau, specifically the son of Jean-Michel. Fabien is a graduate of Boston University, after working in marketing for three years he finally decided to dedicate himself to oceanography getting his first solo expedition in 2002 to film a special episode of National Geographic Explorer.

As you can see, we are far from talking about a person who does not know anything about this world, so it is more than interesting that he dares to collaborate in a project where he seeks to manufacture artificial coral from sandstone and limestone. Managers trust that their artificial creations created using 3D printing promote natural reef growth much faster than with other techniques used so far.

According to his own words fabien cousteau:

There are many places in the world where reefs were a spectacle of life when I was a teenager, and are now basically a desert, infested with algae and without animals. It is a sad statement because around 70% of the biodiversity in the ocean depends on coral reefs.
