Sweden bans shooting video for personal use with drones

Sweden

This time it was the Supreme Administrative Court of Sweden the one that has just hit the drone world hard by prohibiting its users from recording freely. As you can read in the title of this post, basically what just ban in Sweden is that any non-professional user who has a drone can use their device and record video for personal use.

The only exception to this harsh regulation is that the use of the drone equipped with a camera is to perform some type of surveillance work or other professional motive. In this legislation, when it is published, a series of jobs that can make use of this technology have been taken into account, for jobs that are not registered in the legislation, a special permit must be requested from the corresponding body.

Sweden prohibits drone users from recording video for personal use.

In turn, this new legislation publishes the fees that all operators must pay to operate their drones. In case of owning a drone of less than 25 kilograms of weight, you will be exempt from having to pay taxes, if the weight of your drone is greater than this amount you will have to pay a regulatory fee of U.S. dollar 1.400. For landowners, if they want to operate drones of more than 25 kilograms on their land, they will have to pay this fee, although they will not be affected by the limitation imposed by the legislation and they will be able to fly without the need to receive any permission.

As expected, the first reactions to such legislation have not been long in coming and many are already complaining that these laws lack any logic since Swedish citizens are allowed, by law, to film images in public spaces so it is incoherent that they cannot use a drone to do so. As a detail, one of the guilds that is complaining the most is that of journalism, which would not be allowed to use it either.
