Army drones will have the task of monitoring forests in search of arsonists

Army

As you well know, there are many victims of the enormous number of fires that occur throughout a natural year. Unfortunately, it is true that we cannot do much more to those that occur naturally, but to all those that are originated by people who are either psychically ill, or are looking for some kind of interest. To spot these people the Spanish Army has decided to use its own drones.

Before continuing, let you know that this is literally the first time that the Army has reached an agreement with an Autonomous Community to monitor the skies with your drones. Specifically, the model used will be the 'Searcher MK III J', which has been used from 2008 to 2013 to monitor the skies over Afghanistan for possible Taliban attacks in the Herat area.

The Army will use its drones'Searcher MK III J'to watch over the Bierzo forests

The use of these drones was, almost exclusively, to monitor the skies of the area in search of people. We are talking about about 200 square kilometers that in recent years have been severely punished by the activity of arsonists, not in vain and according to studies, in that area 70% of fires are intentional.

As commented by Lieutenant Colonel Jesus Angel of the Neighborhood, head of Grosa, a unit created in October 2015 and functionally dependent on the High Availability Terrestrial Headquarters:

Our main mission is the forest surveillance of an area where fires have occurred in the Bierzo area in recent years.

The detection of the smoke columns is our main objective. We usually fly through programmed points and following some guidelines that are given to us by the regional command center of the Castilian and Leonese Ministry of Development and Environment
