Valencia begins to design 3D printing techniques for domestic furniture

household furniture

Thanks to a recent collaboration agreement reached between the Technological Metalworking Institute of Valencia (AIMME) and the Technological Institute for Furniture, Wood, Packaging and the Like (AIDIMIA), both located in the city of Valencia (Spain) will begin to investigate the feasibility of the different 3D printing techniques applied to the domestic furniture sector that is currently used in the industry as well as new models and derivatives of the previous ones with which to start working and even the most suitable materials for each type of structure.

Before continuing, let me tell you that this study, which will still take specialists from both centers for several years, has been fully funded thanks to the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE) and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). As a detail, tell you that these funds have not been allocated, as unfortunately we are used to seeing, «finger”But rather that during 2015 these two technology centers located in Valencia presented a complete and complex development program planned for two years, which today is beginning to offer the first results.

Going a little more in depth, tell you that among the most interesting points that are being carried out, highlight for example the review of the state of the art and an evaluation of the most interesting product lines when applying 3D printing technologies. Within this point those high added value products that use wood or derivatives in which the use of additive manufacturing techniques would be more than interesting and above all advantageous.

Another point that I personally found quite striking is the fact that by now they have already identified two types of technologies to be used, such as the use of injection techniques for viscous material, composed of a mixture of resin and powder, or the manufacture of domestic furniture by sheets using LOM technology.

Hello, soon, instead of doing like the Ikea that provides you with the pieces of the furniture and they say "assemble it yourself", they will sell you the materials, and they will tell you "print it yourself" XDDDDDDDDD.

    Greetings to everyone.
