Aena will use drones in seven of its airports to carry out security inspections

After the bet that companies the size of Boeing are making to achieve tasks in a much easier and even automated way thanks to the use of drones, it seems that other large companies in the sector are beginning to encourage themselves in this regard. As it has just been revealed, Aena will start using drones to perform safety inspections in air navigation aid systems from seven national airports.

As has been revealed, Aena has finally opted for the use of drones designed and manufactured by the company Duck, which will have the complicated task of serving as a guide to help pilots acquire and maintain the correct approach angle when they are preparing to land on any of the airport runways.

Canard will be in charge of the development and manufacture of the new Aena drones

The main idea behind the implementation of this program lies in the need to reduce costs while offering a controlled flight alternative to monitor current precision approach course indicators and inspect visual navigation aids that are located near the heading of all runways to provide guidance information to assist pilots in acquiring and maintaining approach angle correct on landing.

As explained Jorge Gomez, Managing Director of Canard Drones:

The use of drones for flight inspection is revolutionary for the air transport industry. After an evaluation process, Aena chose Canar based on the strengths of our technology. Our drones offer airports the opportunity to do more and better inspections of the PAPI system, as well as reduce or eliminate the need for manned flights.

Our system is the culmination of a long research and development process and Canard is now the world leader in innovation in the drone flight inspection market. We are working closely with civil aviation authorities and international airport managers to bring our technology to airports around the world.
