Airbus and Dassault join forces on 3D printing

Airbus

From Airbus Group the decision to reach an agreement with the French company Dassault to make greater use of its well-known platform has just been announced Dassault Systems 3DEXPERIENCE, a platform where all kinds of software structures are integrated for the design, simulation and production of all kinds of parts manufactured using 3D printing techniques. As a detail, tell you that this news comes now after more than two years of testing by Airbus Group of this platform.

As well communicated in the press release, this platform will be used by the multinational to manufacture tools, prototypes and parts for test flights and use in commercial aircraft thanks to the fact that it allows a much easier way to give continuity to your digital designs plus validate virtually every phase of the additive manufacturing process. Undoubtedly, an ideal tool to carry out all the claims of a company like Airbus in terms of 3D printing.

After two years of testing, Airbus is finally making a significant commitment to 3D printing.

Based on the statements made by Robert Nardini, Senior Vice President, Cell Engineering, Airbus:

Airbus has long used Dassault Systèmes simulation applications to speed up structural analysis and virtual testing of aircraft; we can now define a new way of designing parts by leveraging simulation-based design to better respond to the needs of the aviation market. Numerous projects across Airbus are accelerating the use of additive manufacturing to produce prototypes, as well as production components that will potentially deliver lighter and less expensive parts that meet technology, performance, safety and cost standards.

For its part, Dominique florack, Senior Executive Vice President of Research and Development at Dassault Systèmes:

Additive manufacturing creates new opportunities in different areas, such as remote manufacturing for support and maintenance, rapid prototyping for the realization of new concepts and experiences, and, perhaps most importantly, the development of designs that were, until now, impossible to manufacture. With this approach, the Airbus Group will be able to leverage the next generation of automated design for parts on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, whether 3D printed or not, accelerating a new wave of transformation in the aerospace industry. With the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, we deliver an end-to-end solution that includes all engineering parameters for additive part manufacturing, including materials science, functional specifications, generative design, 3D printing optimization, production, and certification.
