Airbus will use drones to search for possible damage to its aircraft

Airbus

Airbus It is one of the companies that is betting the most on new technologies and, if for months we have seen 3D printing as one of its main points of focus, today we can see how they are also becoming interested in the world of drones. On this occasion, as the company has just announced, they will use this type of unmanned aircraft to damage inspection work in its fleet of planes.

The real work of this program will be to be able to take pictures and videos of the upper area of any aircraft. As a detail, tell you that for this work a custom software so that the drone itself is able to perform a fully autonomous preset flight and without the need for an operator to be controlling it, although he must supervise it.

Airbus will develop its own autonomous drones for the inspection of its aircraft

During this flight, the drone will move through quite delicate areas of the plane so that it takes high-quality photographs, these, in turn, will be sent to a computer where an operator can study if the infrastructure of the plane in question has suffered any type of damage or defect, is deteriorated or has paint defects. All these photos, in addition to monitoring in real time, serve to later create a 3D digital model of aircraft surface which will later be analyzed in depth.

One of the main concerns of Airbus in this project is the time required for the drone to do its job, apparently, it has been achieved that during the first tests all the necessary photographs are taken in just 10 or 15 minutes, a time that is significantly less than the two hours it took for operators using traditional methods.
