Yes, with Arduino you can also build a portable metal detector

Home metal detector

The technology for detecting metals is already well known. However, not all of us have the possibility of being able to have a metal detector at home to help us with tasks such as locating a piece of metal that we have lost or simply as a tool to discover small treasures.

A maker user has managed to create a metal detector thanks to an Arduino Mega board. The user is called TechKiwi Gadgets and has published the construction guide in the Instructables repository.
For the construction of this metal detector you will need several electromagnets, a 3,5 inch touch screen, an Arduino Mega board and various components that we can find in electronics stores. The use of these coils makes the objects are located more precisely and the touch screen makes it possible to locate the exact coordinate of the metallic object.

This homemade metal detector cannot be used in all the places we want

The design uses five coils to detect any metallic object. A design that cheaply creates a powerful and portable metal detector. The surprising thing is using an Arduino Mega board. Although Arduino Mega is the most powerful model that exists within the Arduino Project models, it is also true that it is the model that has the least uses.

Currently, Arduino Mega is usually used for the construction of 3D printers and some virtual reality project. And now we can add this metal detector as another project that uses Arduino Mega.

The construction of this project is quite easy and we can even find in the guide a method to calibrate the gadget and make it more accurate. If we build this metal detector, we have to remember that in Spain its use is limited and in certain areas we will not be able to use it without the corresponding permission or even with it we will not be able to use it.
