Arduino shows us the future of smartwatches

Smartwatch with Arduino Due to rotate screen

During the last months, maybe during the last years, we have seen how smartwatches grew and reached our wrists in a fast way. But that seems to be no longer the case and users demand more news in these devices.

At the moment we know that the future of smartwatches will go through making calls, but and after that? A good question that curiously has been answered by Free Hardware.

As they have shown various students from the University of South China, the future will go through making the screen of the smartwatch move as we please and not the other way around, making it easier to see the device and making us not have to move our arm to do so.

This advance has been achieved thanks to the use of an Arduino board, Arduino Due, which together with the rest of the sensors has managed to rotate the screen according to our needs.

Arduino Due can make the screen of smartwatches adapt to our view

For this to work, the students of the University of South China have only needed this totally free plate, various motors and sensors that many smart watches already have such as bluetooth, a gyroscope or a motion sensor.

Unfortunately this is not a project that we can already build ourselves but a project that has been presented to demonstrate the power of Free Hardware and the functions that even smartwatches can do for us. Although surely that after the publication of these papers, more than one user and manufacturer of these devices will work to make this possible and be a near reality.

I personally find it very interesting. Not only for the use of Free Hardware but also for the new functions they can create. In this case we are talking about rotating the screen, but it may one day allow us to build our own smartphone Do not you think?
