Atom 3, a 3D printer capable of working with SLA and FDM

Atom 3

Today is the time to talk about the latest novelty presented by Layer One, a company specialized in the development and manufacture of inexpensive 3D printers that has just presented a new model baptized with the name of Atom 3, a machine that can be a true revolution in the market by combining two types of different technologies in the same device.

As the name suggests, we are in the third evolution of the Atom model created by the Taiwanese company Layer One, a model that began its commercial adventure using FDM technology with which it was possible to print a great variety of objects in a very simple way. Despite this success, the company decided that the time had come for its research and development department to find a way to being able to use two different technologies on your new machine.

Layer One announces that the new Atom 3 is now ready to hit the market

Based on the press release published by Layer One, it is emphasized that, thanks to the use of two different technologies in their new Atom 3, all users will be able to create much larger pieces with greater detail since, FDM makes it possible to manufacture solid and functional parts, as well as prototypes, while SLA offers a much finer and more detailed print.

In the words of Lawrence Lee, founder and current CEO of Layer One:

Even with our ultra-rigid design and 0mm nozzle, it is impossible to produce a very high level of detail with FDM technology, no matter what. For this possible for our clients, we are returning to stereolithography at the moment.

Unfortunately, the negative part of this announcement is that the manufacturer has not wanted to disclose too much technical data about this novel hybrid 3D printer although, according to gossip, it has been announced that it will finally offer a 65 x 120 x 250 mm print volume and liquid crystal displays which will solidify the liquid resin.
