In Australia they will use drones to detect the presence of sharks on their coasts

Australia

One of the great problems faced by all bathers on the beaches of Australia comes from the most likely shark presence. A very high risk that means that they cannot enjoy a good day at the beach, surf or have to suspend different maritime competitions due to the presence of these living beings.

Due to the high risk of bathing in waters where there are sharks and for try to warn citizens much more in advance, the authorities of the country have decided to test a new program through which they will try to detect the presence of these animals using drones equipped with artificial intelligence with the capacity to analyze thousands of images completely autonomously.

Australia uses drones and specially trained artificial intelligence software to detect sharks in the water

As has been revealed by the engineers in charge of developing the software that will detect sharks at high speed. To date, the platform is already capable of detecting the presence of sharks among different marine creatures, specifically the probrama is capable of detecting sharks with up to a 90% accuracy, something that contrasts strongly with the probability of success of the human eye, estimated at 16%.

As commented Nabin sharma, chief project engineer and professor at Sydney University of Technology:

We can identify 16 different types of objects: sharks, whales, dolphins, surfers, different types of boats and various objects of interest. We can alert swimmers in real time, to return to the beach.

The reason the drone is so important is that sometimes you can't see past the waves, so having the drone is a little extra piece of information for us.
