One of the benefits of Hardware Libre is that oneself or a company can copy the models and create their own hardware, this is ideal for taking hardware to places where it would otherwise be impossible. The Spanish company BQ has taken good note of this and in addition to printers, the company is creating Spanish Arduino alternatives. BQ Zum Core is the board in charge of replacing Arduino Uno (or rather to compete with it) although its improvements make it above it, one step away from the future Genuino 101.

Zum Core is a basic board like Arduino which owns an Atmel ATMEGA328P chipset with a speed of 16MIPS. The plate is fully support Arduino UNO so in addition to working with the Arduino IDE, it will also work with the BQ programs.

Zum Core differs from other boards because it incorporates bluetooth option, that is, it communicates by microusb cable and also by bluetooth, something that Arduino UNO it can't and that Genuino 101 will when it hits the market. It also has a different voltage output than usb, something useful for the more puritans. BQ has been a bit more hands-on than the Arduino team and has decided implement an on / off button, something useful if we take into account that with bluetooth it will allow us to cut it or continue with the connections.

The number of pins in Zum Core is interesting because in addition to having the same as Arduino UNO, the possibility of including three sets of pins for another type of connectivity that will make us not need any breadboard.

As I mentioned above, price is the only factor that determines this board versus Arduino UNO. As long as the plate Arduino UNO It has an approximate price of 20 euros, the ZUM Core board is priced at 34,90 euros, a very high price considering that they are plates for beginners and basic, but in a matter of choice, I would opt for ZUM Core.

Zum Core is more expensive but it has the option of bluetooth and the on and off button, something interesting that will make us create the same projects as with Arduino Yun or Arduino UNO, we choose, while with the plate Arduino UNO, the option is more restricted. Still, for those of you who already have a bit of a level, the choice is yours because both one plate and the other are very good and ideal for all kinds of personal projects.
