How to build your own mobile phone with a Raspberry Pi

If you are a user of the community and you like to develop, surely you know that today there are several open source mobile phones with which you can tinker without further ado and above all without fear that some large company may report you for modifying proprietary code without express authorization. Unfortunately one of the negative parts of these phones is that, in case of breakage, it is very difficult to find parts to repair them, they are difficult to solder or their operating systems are quite complex to understand and therefore to modify.

What do you think if we bet on something that we already know? With this, what he wants to present you is a project where a user from the community shows us how to build what he himself has baptized as ZeroPhone, a peculiar mobile phone made from a Raspberry Pi Zero whose creator ensures that we can build with a budget that would be around 50 euros. Without a doubt, a final price that makes us more than suggestive and appealing.

ZeroPhone, a mobile phone created from a Raspberry Pi Zero.

Among the pieces that we must acquire, tell you that this version has been equipped with a radio module known as SIM800L 2G. Unfortunately and as you are sure you know, there are many areas on the planet where 2G is being withdrawn, so the developer who created the project ensures that he is already looking for some other alternative to connect to 3G networks. Second we find a ESP8266 that acts as a WiFi module, a OLED display and python code for all software.

As you can see, we do not have a last generation touch screen, much less, although neither, no matter how much we have a high-end mobile, we will have the opportunity to directly connect a screen, mouse and keyboard and work with our own computer. Without a doubt a project that we can carry out perfectly and customize it to our liking if we use, for example, 3D printing to create our own case.
