CATEC will be the first in Andalusia to send a printed piece to space

After many months of hard work in terms of design and production, and especially after many quality controls, finally the Advanced Center for Aerospace Technologies, better known as CATECH, based in the Aeropolis park of La Rinconada (Seville), has managed to have one of its projects where it was working on the manufacture of parts manufactured by 3D printing, to be sent into space as part of an artificial satellite.

As announced, we are talking about a part made by 3D printing with quite peculiar characteristics. We have an example in its size, since we are talking about some 30 x 20 centimeters or that it will be part of one of the satellites that European Space Agency (ESA) plans to launch into orbit in 2018, this being the first time that a part of one of these satellites is manufactured on Andalusian soil.

After a lot of time and effort, CATEC will finally take a 3D printed part into space

Thanks to the achievement of this milestone, it seems that the purpose for which the center was created a few years ago begins to take shape and above all push. As a reminder, tell you that it was created for promote and develop the creation of technological knowledge and its transfer to the industrial productive fabric dedicated to the aerospace sector.

To carry out this work, the center today employs more than 60 researchers. To this staff we must add specialized technical staff, mostly specialists in industrial engineering, aeronautics, telecommunications, materials, information technology and even chemistry. As expected, there is no shortage of graduates in other technical careers to give support and rigidity to the internal structure of the center.
