Printed clothing

In China they are very clear that technologies such as 3D printing have come to stay and, when the time comes, they will be able to truly revolutionize the market. You have proof of what I say in the words that Spencer Fung, founder of the Chinese procurement giant Li & Fung, has delivered during a conference held at the Annual Show of the National Retail Federation which has been held in New York.

As a summary and before going into much more detail, Spencer Fung's idea about the long-term future of China's textile industry is that it comes to work according to a new model in which, instead of producing any type of clothing to later sell it, a completely opposite line is followed, that is, will be sold first and then manufactured, something that is only possible if every client has a 3D printer at home.

Spencer Fung is betting that in the long term, people will make their own clothes at home

In his own words Spencer Fung:

In hours you can have a digitized example, put it on the web and start collecting information, assessing how many you will need; and in four or five days you can have hundreds of pieces produced.

Look at this bag, it does not exist: everything else in this image does, but the bag has not yet been produced. This technology allows you to imagine your collection and at the moment you can see it in your store. 95% of our customers tell us about speed, which seems to be the currency today.

The production of a white T-shirt probably shouldn't be that fast; you don't need to be quick at everything. I imagine we will all have a 3D printer at home and print our own clothes. When this happens, what will happen to us, to the factories, to the workers in these factories and to the logistics companies. Even when this happens we will need the design and the 3D models: that's why we are focusing on this.
