During the last months colorfabb has been working together with Eastman Chemical Company, a company specialized in chemical products, in the development of a new semi-flexible heat resistant filament. This new material has been released under the name of nGen_flex and is suitable for use in FFF type 3D printers (manufacture by fused filament).
According to both companies, this new filament, which can already be found for sale in any of the stores, both physical and virtual, where Colorfabb products are sold, stands out for its properties that give it characteristics of high resistance y semi-flexibility which allows high printing speeds compared to other soft filaments that usually require much lower speeds to achieve a good result.
On the other hand, it places special emphasis on the great resistance to high temperatures that this filament presents, a characteristic that differentiates it from other materials since it is capable of resisting up to 130 degrees centigrade allowing, in addition, its sterilization using steam, something that can be highly valued in a medical or domestic setting.
To make use of this new material, we will need a melting temperature of between 240 and 260 degrees. The manufacturer also recommends heating the base to 80 degrees Celsius. During the manufacturing process, the layer ventilation can be used at a maximum of 50% while the layer height is between 100 and 200 microns thick.
According to own colorfabb:
This new material is an elastomer with exceptional interlayer adhesion, resulting in strong chemical bonds in the material, allowing it to print at higher speeds. It can be used in common 3D printing without the need for special extruders for flexible filaments.
