A consortium of companies agrees to start manufacturing aircraft cabins by 3D printing

Etihad

In an attempt to revolutionize the world of aviation, three companies as globally powerful as can be Etihad Airways, Siemens y Strata Manufacturing, have just reached a collaboration agreement in which they agree to work together to try to develop and manufacture many of the parts that make up the interiors of the aircraft that will take to the skies of the Middle East and North Africa using printing techniques. 3D.

Thanks to this, it is intended to find a way in which airlines can improve all their designs and above all reduce maintenance costs thanks to the fact that the parts can be manufactured completely on demand. A first step in the alliance of these three companies has been to create a pilot program in which several engineers and designers will begin to work on the design of aircraft cabins for Etihad aircraft. As we can read in the published report, these will be the first aircraft parts manufactured using 3D printing technologies that will be designed, manufactured and certified in the United Arab Emirates, the Middle East and Asia.

The joint work of Etihad Airways, Siemens and Strata Manufacturing aims to design and manufacture different parts for aircraft by 3D printing.

Each of the companies, unsurprisingly, will carry out a different task. On the one hand Siemens You will leverage its global expertise in 3D printing and digitization. This will allow you to select the right materials, perform tests and take care of the preparation of the processes. For their part, the engineers of Etihad will be in charge of certifying the pieces while Strata will take care of its manufacture.
