Control a drone with an old Game Boy

Game Boy

Thanks to Hardware Libre It has been possible to recreate the old game consoles that entertained many of us years ago, but it is also true that old game consoles can be recycled to provide new functions. This same thing happens with the Game Boy, which can be reused as a remote control. A curious remote control that can control a simple drone.

The application is not very practical but it is striking. Very striking. And also anyone who has the necessary components will be able to convert the old Game Boy on this remote.

To carry out this project you need an Arduino Nano board, an old Game Boy, a Nintendo Game Link cable that communicates the game console with other accessories and a computer or electronic system that has wireless communication to communicate with the drone.

These components can be replaced by others that make the Game Boy more complete when used as a remote control or we can even replace the old game console with another gadget that we want as a radio frequency control. Thus, the Game Boy is connected to the Arduino Nano board and this is controlled by the PC that processes all the orders. But you don't need a great team for it so a Raspberry Pi can be used to connect Arduino Nano with the drone. We can also replace the Game Boy with a board like the Pi Zero, a board that has already been used as a substitute for the old Game Boy.

El project It is still curious for many, because the Game Boy has gone from being considered garbage to being considered a valuable gadget for the geeks, a gadget that they would not spend to use as a remote control for drones; but it is also curious that of all the possible gadgets, the old Game Boy can function as such. Still the doubt is there What would you do? Would you turn the Game Boy into this remote control?
