Create your own DIY alarm based on Arduino Micro

DIY alarm

Some time ago the son of Chad hervert, Daniel, was diagnosed with benign rolandic epilepsy, it is a type of epilepsy which, according to the Epileptic Foundation says that 15% of all children diagnosed with this disease suffer and, inside the bad, most of them grow up without suffering any type of attack.

Unfortunately there is a problem and it is that Daniel, in case of suffering an attack, suffers it late at night or very early in the morning just while sleeping, something that is very dangerous so his father, Chad, to give a better quality of life to his son, he decided to invest his donation in the purchase of a sleep monitor / alarm located in his bed that senses when he is having a crisis.

Right at the same time that he was making this purchase, he began to study the operation of the monitor to work on his own DIY alarm that was executed thanks to Arduino Micro. The starting point was the project «Knock»Originally created by David Cuartielles in 2007 and modified by Tom Igoe already in 2011. According to statements by Chad Herbert himself:

While my wife was looking at the market and looking to buy a monitor / alarm I was doing my research and I found out some things like that They are very hard to find, I think the one we ended up buying was made by a company in Great Britain, they are very expensive, the price finally was around 500 dollars and they are too uncomfortable, once installed you do not feel that it is there but in case you have to moving it is a real problem.

Once I understood these things, I decided to find a way to build a simple alarm that would jump into a seizure and that was cheap and easy to transport. I'm sure there are people out there who have children who suffer from seizures and just they cannot afford such expensive equipment even though they really need it. Thanks to the folks in the Arduino community, who were able to make this project go ahead.
