Create a smart label with Raspberry Pi Zero and an e-ink display

smart etoqueta

It has been a few weeks since the stores have been restocked with Raspberry Pi Zero units and that is causing them to improve and create new projects of the Raspberry Pi Community.

One of them has been this smart label project, a label that will allow us to change the information with just a simple sending of data, being totally reusable and being able to be used in any context without having to import the appearance or the information of the label.

To create this little gadget, we just need a Raspberry Pi Zero board, a small Li-Po battery, a 2-inch e-ink screen and a power adapter to charge the battery. Magnets are also needed to be able to attach the label or badge, although personally I prefer to opt for a safety pin that is less dangerous for the electronics of the Pi Zero.

It is best to opt for a safety pin instead of magnets to use with this smart tag

Once we have assembled everything, iWe install Raspbian on Pi Zero next to the software that appears in this page. This will allow us to modify or customize the message that will appear on the e-ink screen.

The price of this smart badge or label is quite high, but it is also true that it will save us a lot of money if we always need or use this type of accessories a lot, accessories that are usually disposable and therefore we always need a new one.

We can alter this same project and have as a result a smart label that we can use in our home, to put dates or names or simply use it in the business world and have a smart label that will save us time, money and even can be a claim for customers. In any case, this is an example of the possibilities that the Pi Zero can offer us and there is still much more we can do with this inexpensive board.
