Create a Plotter with two cdrom readers

Plotter

Sometimes it just takes a little imagination to create cool things from home. An example that follows the Homo Faciens website which teaches us how create a plotter with two cdrom or dvdrom reading units, a raspberry pi, several servo motors and a wireless key that will be connected to the Raspberry Pi.

All this results in a wireless plotter that will allow us to print anything anywhere. The interest of this project is in the educational function although of course it can be used for other purposes without having the same precision that a professional plotter may have.

As well indicated, this plotter can also help teach the smallest the differences between a normal image and a vector image. In addition, Homo Faciens not only shows us how to disassemble the reading unit but also how to assemble the plotter, as well as making all the necessary software available to us so that we can use this homemade plotter.

Homo Faciens makes a plotter recycling cdrom units

The printing area of this plotter is approximately 35 mm each step, being able to do up to 35 steps, a very interesting printing area that will not only allow us to print or draw on large papers but also on other surfaces such as the case of a laptop, as indicated in the promotional video of the project.

In the economic aspect, this project also stands out since the basis of all this is still two reader units that we can find in any landfill or looking for an old computer that is not used at home.

Although we do not need a plotter, the truth is that this project is very interesting and can be a very enriching experience, not only to show young students but also for own learning. We will have to reserve another Raspberry Pi for its construction, don't you think?
