Build a motion camera for less than $ 100

Pi Zero camera

One of the things I like the most about Hardware Libre is that we can create devices equal to the newest gadgets with less money and more personalized. The following example fits perfectly into this as it allows us to create a security camera or a motion camera for less than $ 100, something interesting if we need a similar gadget.

The project is based on a photographic sensor with the ability to perceive movement attached to a Pi Zero, creating a small gadget that is easy to place in any area.

In addition to the camera sensor, the Pi Zero has a Wifi module that will allow send us an email every time the camera registers movement. It is part of the scripts that the Noobs version of this Pi Zero has.

Motion camera with Pi Zero can be ideal for security needs

About the software as well as the assembly instructions you will find it in this link. But before that we present you a list of components and their approximate price. Something that will show us how interesting this project can be.

  • Raspberry Pi Zero Model 1.3: $ 5
  • SD card with Noobs: $ 8
  • Microusb power adapter: $ 6
  • Wi-Fi key: $ 13
  • Raspberry Pi NoIR Camera: $ 26
  • camera cable: $ 5
  • MiniHDMI adapter: $ 7
  • MiniUSB adapter: $ 3

Of course, this price list and components may vary significantly if we already have any components. Although it should be noted that the main component is the Raspberry Pi NoIR Camera, a component that not only records but also has a motion sensor that activates the Raspberry Pi camera.

This same project can be done with Raspberry Pi, however the main version does not have the same versatility as the reduced version, in addition to requiring less power than the version with Raspberry Pi. Another main aspect of the project is the Zero View support, a support that is compatible with the Pi Zero and with any Raspberry Pi camera, a support that is not very expensive and easily replaceable if we are handymen with the 3D printer.
