Curatio, a low-cost 3D scanner that you can make yourself

All those projects that little by little are reaching the network where their creators get real jewels starting from a very low budget always attract my attention. This is precisely what stands out in Curatio, a 3D scanner where its creator, Pieter smakman, has managed to manufacture a fairly compact and interesting 3D scanner model, in principle dedicated, as it shows us in a video located lines below, for scanning hands and arms.

This purpose has a very simple reason, in the market there are models of 3d scanner that can be dedicated to many things but none of them fulfilled a function as simple and basic as power scan a whole hand or arm in a simple way, an end for which Pieter Smakman wanted a unit. Since the commercialized ones must in principle serve many purposes and not just one, the author of this project set out to build his own 3D scanner.

According to Pieter Smakman himself, Curatio, which is how he has baptized this project, also serves to scan many other items or objects similar in size to a hand or arm although the entire system is specially tuned for the specific purpose that its creator has decided to guide it. Regarding more advanced features, it should be noted that Curatio works thanks to a Raspberry Pi which is in charge of processing all the information that arrives through 32 cameras accompanied by two laser pointers.

Without a doubt it must be recognized that the work done to create Curatio is more than impressive although, despite being related to the TU Delft University, there is no guarantee that it will eventually become a real product even though, as you may be thinking, it could make a lot of sense in fields such as healthcare where doctors and specialists could create pieces that perfectly fit the physiognomy. of a specific joint.

Well, if they made it a little bit bigger, and the inner part could move vertically, maybe it could serve as a full-body scanner at a reduced cost, right?

    Greetings to everyone.
