DietPi, an interesting system for our Raspberry Pi

DietPi

There are many operating systems for our Raspberry Pi, as many as there are Gnu / Linux distributions or at least almost. Although generally we all use Raspbian as an operating system. However, even within Raspbian we find different options.

One of these options is called DietPi, a Gnu / Linux distribution for SBC boards that is based on Debian but highly optimized for ARM platforms.

DietPi is not only compatible with all versions of Raspberry Pi boards it is also compatible with other boards such as Banana Pi, Orange Pi, Odroid or NanoPi.

DietPi takes up less space than Raspbian Lite despite having the same base

DietPi has a smaller image than Raspbian Lite, about 400 mb, but it is also optimized for the ram memory and platform of the SBC boards, which makes the operating system very fast and light. This operating system has a lightweight desktop environment that use the whiptail menu system, something that makes it a fast graphical environment for the user.

DietPi also has several tools of its own, such as DietPi-Software that provides us with a store to install applications with one click, DietPi-Backup to make backup copies of our operating system or DietPi-Config, a script such as Pi-Config that allows us to configure and optimize the hardware and software of the distribution.

DietPi is a totally free and free operating system. We can get it through on the web, where we will get the download image as well as support for its operation in case you have a problem.

If you use Raspberry Pi as a minipc or another SBC board, you must have an optimized operating system. Surely if you have version 3, Raspbian or Ubuntu are good options, but If you have Raspberry Pi Model B, DietPi may be the best option Do not you think?
