This 3D printed foil can greatly improve satellite communications

From the Catholic University of Murcia we receive information about the work carried out by Maria Dolores Montero, a student of the Degree in Telecommunications who has just surprised many of her classmates thanks to the project she is carrying out to minimize delays and signal intensity losses in current communication systems, a project that has been chosen by Telefónica to compete at the national level with other technological solutions within the entrepreneurship support program Talentum Startups.

The project, known by the name of Metaquir, plane of rotation, consists of a plastic sheet of ABS thermopolymer, a sheet that in turn has been manufactured using 3D printing technologies and whose cost is 70% lower than solutions already on the market. This plate has been designed to, when installed in conventional communication antennas, modify the geometry and composition of the waves that are emitted and received through them.

Improving the signal of our antennas is now possible thanks to Metaquir, a 3D printed sheet

In order to bring this project to fruition, UCAM has made its 3D Lab classroom available to its student, a place where all kinds of prototypes have been printed until the most successful design is achieved. As a detail, as the creator and designer of this small printed sheet comments, apparently they have had to create more than 100 simulations, including the final prototype, to get the best solution right.

Likewise, from the business incubator of the ITM (UCAM Technological Institute of Murcia) has been given support and mentoring in business, technological and social skills, through a training plan supervised by a specialized mentor.
