This is the Defense plan to deal with ISIS drones in Iraq

Defense

As with practically all armies that have troops in Iraq, and the Spanish Army is one of them, today they are encountering a problem that must be resolved as soon as possible, such as the attacks that the Islamic State is carrying out on anyone who considers their enemy through the use of drones modified in a rather rudimentary way but effective.

As expected, the Ministry of Defense is taking this threat very seriously and has already launched, urgently, a to acquire and deploy a electronic shield with which to protect the entire Besmayah base from this type of attack, which today houses the entire bulk of the Spanish army that is deployed there with more than 450 soldiers and civil guards.

The Defense Ministry is already preparing the deployment of an electronic shield for the Besmayah base.

The reason that our army lacks this type of defenses at its base is directly because, until now, the Islamic State lacked airplanes or helicopters, so there was no air threat as such. The appearance of drones has radically changed this panorama since, due to their size and speed, they are difficult to detect and, even more so, to intercept, especially if they also attack in swarms.

As has been revealed, the main idea of the Ministry of Defense is not to shoot down the drones, but rather neutralize them. For this, the shield will have a radar capable of detecting the arrival of a drone a few kilometers away, once detected an electronic warfare equipment capable of intercept the signal that controls the drone whether there is a person directing it with a remote control or if it is moved with the help of a GPS.

Apparently the risk with this new way of attacking the military by the Islamic State not only lies in the use of drones equipped with explosive charges, but there is also the option that many of them are shot down without their cargo exploding so that become mines.
