University of Ghana students create a 3D printer in two weeks

Klak 3D

We have been telling you for a long time the ability to create objects and components thanks to 3D printing, something that allowed that in places like Africa technological elements could be obtained for very little price or zero cost.

The situation has reached such a point that several groups and African universities are building 3D printers with recycled materials or elements taken from technological dumps that are being created on the African continent.

Almost all the components of this 3D printer created at the University of Ghana have been taken from landfills

If it may already seem difficult to us building a 3D printer with recycled materials, it is more difficult to achieve it in just two weeks, something that have gotten students from the University of Ghana. These students have managed to create their printer out of old tubes, screws, bicycle tires, and even old computer components.

Unfortunately the main electronics of this printer have been obtained by other methods that are not native to Africa (possibly an online purchase), so the 3D printer is not totally African but it is a start for future versions and future models.

We do not believe that it can be massively reproduced or even sold, but many say that with the landfills created in Africa, this issue will not be a problem and that also will help to recycle all the technological material that is being created.

I do not know to what extent this will be a reality or not, but the possibility of duplicating devices thanks to 3D printing is a real thing and if the problem is electronics, well worth spending a handful of euros for a 3D printers board. Still, the price of the 3D printer would be really affordable, possibly within the reach of many pockets Do not you think?
