This Week they have invited us to their facilities so that we could see his work first hand. After walking through the place they have on Bailen Street we have been surprised with everything we have seen there.

Origin of the Fablab

In 2002 Neil Gershenfeld presented the Fablab concept, describing it as a space in which from personal and local resources start small productions with a strong bond between people.

In the middle of 2010 the first FabCafé was founded in Japan with the aim of spreading a culture of creation, as well as technology for creation. During the Summer 2011 Fablab Japan and Loftwork jointly organized a «Fab Lab Camp»And invited creators of all fields. Everyone praised the enthusiasm and creativity they experienced during the two days that the event lasted.

After this success they decided to broaden their sights and a network of Fablabs began to be created all over the world with the intention of creating a large community of international makers. Fabcafé Barcelona opened 2 years ago.

FabCafé Barcelona facilities

Located in the center of the city, we find a large elongated space spread over 2 floors. With a modern and industrial decoration, It does not contain elements that distract our attention. From the moment you walk in the door you can already breathe a work environment.

In the immediate vicinity of the entrance there is a laser cutter and various FDM printers working at a good pace. It also has a SLA printer, scanner and cutter for vinyl sheets. FabCafé makes all these resources available to makers, renting its use by the minute.

There is a small bar counter serving drinks, coffees and light meals to regain strength and continue working. Those responsible tell us that the technology in the local it is very nice and relaxed. And that it is usual to see how they arise spontaneous collaborations between strangers They discover several points in common between their respective projects.

Organized activities and events

In its extensive facilities we also find several rooms for conducting workshops and directed activities. From courses for schools even coworking sessions for Companies. Sometimes some makers even propose creative and different activities and end up holding a workshop. This month they have organized together with a company from Madrid a workshop to print and assemble minidrones.

Undoubtedly the visit to their facilities has been very satisfactory and it sure is the first of many visits. So if you want us to develop with them any of the points that we have mentioned, you just have to comment.
