Ford bets on the introduction of 3D printing in its manufacturing processes

Ford

In their latest official announcement, the leaders of the renowned Ford have just announced that they hope to become the first car manufacturer to build a 3D printer equipped with sufficient capacity to power manufacture car parts of any size and shape.

In principle, this new 3D printer will be used for the design and manufacture of prototypes. Basically what they expect with it is literally power manufacture whole vehicle parts from one piece, parts that can later be used not only in the company's design department and in the generation of its own prototypes for its vehicles, but also in the production of the cars of the future.

Ford begins testing 3D printing in all of its areas of vehicle prototyping, design, and even production.

As noted in this statement, Ford is currently testing this type of technology using a printer. Stratasys InfiniteBuild 3D, a very advanced and complex machine that has the ability to build objects using materials such as carbon fiber, something with which it is possible to build much more resistant and strong pieces against breakage while being lighter.

Following the company's own words:

Increasingly affordable and efficient, 3D printing large auto parts like spoilers can benefit Ford and consumers. The parts that are printed are lighter than their traditional counterparts and can help improve fuel efficiency.

As a final detail, tell you that Ford is not the only multinational company interested in the operation of a machine with the characteristics of the Stratasys InfiniteBuild 3D, but that there are already other companies, such as Boing, that already have several units with which they already they are working.
