HandEyes, a robotic device that helps people with disabilities in their daily lives

HandEyes

HandEyes is the name with which a new robotic device manufactured using 3D printing techniques has been baptized and created by a group of young Ecuadorians capable of helping blind or visually impaired people to perceive objects that are right in front of them, thus , avoid accidents.

Thanks to their innovative proposal, the authors and creators of this project have managed to get hold of the first prize in the contest organized by the Bank of Ideas of the Secretary of Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of Ecuador where the best technological proposals created by entrepreneurs from all over the country are sought.

HandEyes, a device that will hit the market in mid-2017.

As you have commented so much Carlos Canacuán as Alex Aldás, two of the creators of the project, the device has a sensor capable of recording the distance in real time, that information is internally processed to emit a series of vibrations that go from softer to stronger depending on the distance at which it is they find the objects.

Specifically, both young people commented on how the HandEyes can be used perfectly so that any user can develop their ability to locate objects by reflecting sound waves which allows to create mental maps of the environment through the senses and thus they can know how to move around any room without suffering any type of accident or mishap.

As discussed in El Telégrafo, the HandEyes have a battery similar to that used in high-end tablets, which allows them to be charged through the use of a USB port. To date, the team has managed to manufacture about 50 units that, according to what appears published, apparently have been delivered to several visually impaired people so that they can test the device and thus help in its development.
