The MediaTek company has created an sbc board whose heart is its Helio X20 processor, one of the most powerful mobile processors on the market but from the Mediatek company. The new plate is based on a 96Boards design, an already known design but with some novelties such as the new ports or a more powerful hardware that accompanies this new processor.
At the moment we know that this Helio X20 Dev Board will have Android 6 as base operating system, but as with Raspberry Pi u Odroid-C2, possibly the Helio X20 Dev Board will have more software compatible with the new Mediatek board. Those of you who know Meditek already know that it is not a very free company. Those of you who don't know it, just say that Mediatek is one of the main developers of mobile processors. And it is also the cause that many mobile models are not updated since it does not release all the drivers for their processors. Slowly Mediatek is releasing some drivers for its processors as it was losing users and customers but we still don't know if the Helio X20 Dev Board will have any more updates.
Helio X20 Dev Board will use Android 6 as operating system
As for the rest of the hardware, the Helio X20 Dev Board has 2 Gb of ram, 8 Gb of internal storage, a slot for microsd cards, hdmi output, two usb ports, a microusb port, wifi and bluetooth connection, FM antenna, GPS and two 60-pin and 40-pin ports. The price of the Helio X20 Dev Board is unknown although we know that it will begin to be distributed in China first and later the board will be available in more countries.
The hardware of this Helio X20 Dev Board is interesting, very interesting, but using a Mediatek processor, the interest drops noticeably as updates are not guaranteed. That is why this sbc board is not as free as it seems ...
