The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando begins to use 3D printing in its exhibitions

Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando

It is nothing new that cultural institutions begin to use 3D Printing for their projects, it is something that has already happened for years in many countries and is becoming more and more common. But if it is news that an institution as old as the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando uses 3D printing to create exhibitions.

In this case, the Academy has been helped by the Spanish company BQ, a collaboration that has allowed the use of tablets with additional information about the piece in the exhibition and also has replicated the most important objects of the Ancient World thanks to 3D printing.

The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando has developed an exhibition called Carlos III and the Diffusion of Antiquity. An exhibition that will last until March 2017 and will be held simultaneously in Madrid, Mexico and Naples.

The Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando will bring to Spain the objects that were discovered in the reign of Carlos III

The exhibition will display pieces that were discovered during the reign of Carlos III in Naples and in Spain. Thanks to the BQ tablets you will be able to see a detailed history of its origin, what it really was like and what it represented for the Ancient World. What's more the most important parts have been scanned and 3D printed thanks to BQ printers, something interesting that has also allowed this exhibition to be held in other countries besides Naples and Spain.

In addition, this exhibition will depend on the future of 3D Printing in Spanish museums, because although BQ supports the cause, if it really is not successful, many Spanish museums will be reluctant to use these technologies and vice versa. If the exhibition is very successful, 3D printing and its virtues will reach our museums. But, unfortunately it is something that we will only see from next year.
