DJI drones will not be able to fly certain areas during the Rio Olympics

DJI Rio Olympics

After the great problems that many drone users are causing in certain areas where this type of device cannot be flown, DJI has decided to apply a series of restrictions to its devices in order to avoid that any of its devices may cause some type of incident during the development of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. For this, the company has just released a software update where a series of flight retractions are applied so that the drones cannot fly over areas where various disciplines of the games are being carried out.

As a detail, tell you that this measure has not been launched unilaterally by the Chinese drone company, but that it has been an express request of the Brazilian military forces. The purpose of the meeting, as has been communicated, is to ensure the safety of the athletes and fans who attend the Games. Thanks to this measure, the cities of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Brasilia, Manaus, Salva and Belo Horizonte will be partially free of drones until next August 21 that the restriction will cease to take effect.

When updating your DJI drone, it will not be able to fly over the different venues of the Olympic Games until last August 21, 2016

As a detail, tell you that the fact that DJI implants a flight restriction in its drones is not something new but that there are already several precedents. An example is the G7 summit held in Japan, the celebration of UEFA Euro 2017 in France and even several political rallies held in the United States, measures that have served to guarantee the safety and the development of all these acts without mishaps.

Now, the fact that fans have limited use of their drones near Olympic cities and towns does not mean that televisions do too. Even so, this type of organism must adhere to the security restrictions set by the authorities and the organizers of the Games. An example of these restrictions is that television drones will not be able to fly over crowds or that, when landing, they must maintain a safety space of 30 meters with respect to any person.
