The Interior Ministry will not use drones to monitor its borders

Ministry of the Interior

After several months of study where the Servicio Marítimo Guardia Civil has been testing whether drones can truly represent an advance in border surveillance, as recently commented by José Manuel Holgado, general director of the Civil Guard in the Interior Commission of the Congress of DeputiesApparently they have finally scrapped the use of this technology because they have detected certain technical problems, including the wind.

In this way finally It has been rejected that the Civil Guard can start using drones in conflictive areas of our country such as the border perimeter of Ceuta with Morocco despite the fact that, in previous appearances it was commented that the use of drones could represent a fairly large advance since they could alert much before certain attempts to enter Spain illegally.

The Civil Guard will not use drones to monitor the borders of Spain.

Personally I have to confess that this news has left me a bit 'cold'since, on the one hand, it is argued that one of the technical problems that drones have is the wind, something that may be half true, so to speak. I say this since it is more than proven that depending on the type of drone used, this should not be any kind of impediment, perhaps what, almost certainly, can be a problem is ability operator who has been testing this technology.

On the other hand, the truth is that They have not wanted to give more details about the problems that this type of technology may have.Perhaps it may be because they do not have them or, if they do, they do not know for sure how to solve them due to ignorance since, at least in Spain, there are many companies capable of developing fully customized drones for all kinds of tasks and this personally I think can have easy solution and implementation.
