Build your own autonomous car from a remote control car and a Raspberry Pi

remote control car

Many are the users who, either anonymously or through large companies want to be part of the most anticipated technological development of recent times and is that the arrival of the much loved and feared, in equal parts, autonomous cars is getting closer and closer. . On this occasion I want to present you a project that personally has caught my attention since, with a remote control car and a Raspberry Pi, the developer Zheng Wang has managed to create his own scale autonomous vehicle.

Going into a bit of detail, as you can see in the video located just below these lines, the developer has managed to attach a Raspberry Pi to the small remote control car that serves as a scale model. Thanks to a series of sensors or with a algorithm Specially designed for this purpose, the vehicle is capable of following a road and even detecting, understanding and responding to different types of traffic signs such as stop signs or traffic lights.

As for the characteristics that have managed to make this project work in this striking way, highlighting for example not only the incorporation of a Raspberry Pi card into the remote control car, but also of different sensors such as the official camera of the Raspberry Pi itself or an ultrasonic sensor. From there the real «magician»Of this entire project is the software designed, specifically two programs running simultaneously and that allow managing the information that is coming through the sensors and even transmitting a low-resolution video via WiFi to a nearby computer.
