Mozilla launches the Web of Things framework, its software for IoT

More than a year ago Mozilla confirmed the shutdown of its mobile operating system. An operating system that many were excited about but could not ultimately be sustainable by Mozilla. But before closing Firefox OS, Mozilla told us about four new projects that they would try to develop. One of them was focused on the world of IoT, that is, the Internet of Things. This project was called Web of Things or the Web of Things.

We have not heard from this project until a few days ago, where Mozilla presented a framework for this Proyect. The framework has been called «Web of Things Framework«, a framework that will try to control everything or at least facilitate the way for applications, developers and creators of Hardware Libre.

Mozilla's idea is to create a framework or base that is compatible with all IoT hardware and that this allows the use of any application without taking into account all the IoT hardware. This would facilitate the use and development of applications for IoT since the diverse hardware is a big problem for many.

Mozilla in this case has opted for the web protocol to create this common ground for all. Thus, this framework is compatible with free web standards. It is also created with javascript technology and works on a node.js server. In total, this framework has the basic tools so that any developer can build any application for IoT regardless of hardware. At the moment, the first tests have been carried out on a Raspberry Pi board. Some tests that have come out satisfactorily and that has made Mozilla show its progress on the project.

Mozilla raises something interesting, something that could work well would be compatible with any device Hardware Libre and therefore with almost any IoT device. At least I find it more interesting than creating a single and closed platform or an own operating system that many users will not use Do not you think?
