Last year we met an official Nintendo Classic replica, known as the NES Classic and sold by Nintendo itself. This official replica has caused a furor among users of retro video consoles and that is why there are rumors about the upcoming release of a SuperNES replica, in this case called SuperNES Mini. This is not official yet, but as with the previous game console model, we can create our own SuperNintendo without having to wait for its launch.
In this case we will only need three special components:
- A Raspberry Pi 2 or 3 board.
- A SuperNintendo printed case.
- Retropie Software and video games on a microsd card.
Once we have this, we just need to assemble it and we will have our SuperNES Mini, without having to wait for its sale or be annoyed by the restrictions that Nintendo will impose.
SuperNES Classic is a reality with this recreation
Getting a Raspberry Pi is easy. In this case we recommend opting for version 3 is more compatible with certain remote controls thanks to bluetooth and Wifi.
In the case of the printed casingWe will need a 3D printer but we can also make an order by sending the case file. This file, as well as the design, can be obtained in this Thingiverse link, is a project that already recreates and adapts the SuperNintendo case to the Raspberry Pi board.
The third element, software and video games, are easy to get, you can do it through this website to get the emulator and on Internet Archive you can find a lot of obsolete video games that do not have any legal restrictions and that we can copy and use for free without any problem.
If we add the components and take into account that we have to order the case, the price of this mod or fork of SuperNES is not very expensive and will not exceed 60 euros, which currently costs or a NES Classic, but without limitations and in this case we can use both NES and SuperNES video games. Now it's just a matter of enjoying the old video games.
