Orange Pi continues with its developments and versions of SBC boards. To end the year, Orange Pi has launched the Orange Pi One Plus, an interesting SBC board not only for its new processor but also for the ability to play multimedia content in 4K.
This board is already distributed through the official Orange Pi channels for the price of $ 20 per unit, an attractive price, a powerful processor and something else?
The new Orange Pi One Plus uses the AllWinner H6 SoC, a new SoC that is more powerful, has a lower power consumption and allows among other things 4K playback. The amount of ram memory amounts to 1 Gb, a slot for microsd cards, ethernet port, USB 2.0 port, microusb port, HDMI 2.0 output and a 26 GPIO port are the components of this SBC board.
Regarding software, Orange Pi board only supports Android 7, operating system that is not bad but is not as compatible with Linux distributions, due to the new SoC. Possibly it will be a matter of time before this board is compatible with Ubuntu or Debian.
The hardware is not very powerful and the price is quite low, which makes the Orange Pi One Plus ideal for those looking for an inexpensive and powerful multimedia center; something that will be compatible with the increasingly popular 4K monitors and that will allow us to watch movies and even video games in the highest possible resolution.
This Orange Pi model is the first and I think the only one that supports 4K playback, unless it is a motherboard that moves away from conventional desktop and laptop motherboards. But, surely it will not be the only one, being able to be even a reference to mount the future Raspberry Pi 4 Don't you think so? what do you think? Do you think Raspberry Pi will play 4K content?
