As we well know, there are many designers and visionaries who want to revolutionize practically every corner of each market sector by making drones take care of certain rather tedious tasks. This time I want to show nothing less than the solution with which the giant Parrot He wants to make the work of, for example, sowing a field, much simpler and less laborious.
Going into a little more detail, what Parrot wants with its Sequoia model is precisely to improve the cultivation tasks thanks to a new recording system and the perspective that it can give us if we place it in the heights. Now, for this, the company is not interested in developing a new model of drone, which surely finally arrives one specifically developed for this work, but Sequoia is a kind of multispectral camera that can be used on any drone that I can carry it.
Regarding technical characteristics, we find that the Parrot Sequoia is a normal 16 megapixel camera accompanied by a series of spectral cameras with which you can monitor all the changes in visible and infrared radiation that reflect the plants. Thanks to this control of changes, from the company, they ensure that farmers will be able to control the normal growth of their plants as well as those that are in a situation of stress.
As we can read in the official press release where the Parrot Sequoia is presented:
What seems complicated to understand, helps farmers / operators to predict areas that need more irrigation, crop yields, or areas that need more action with pesticides.
To make all this information much easier to understand, Parrot has announced the collaboration with the company MicaSense to make their drones fly autonomously as well as to develop a program in which all the data obtained after the use of Sequoia (in addition to the cameras it has been equipped with WiFi connectivity, motion sensors, GPS, SD card slot and 64 GB of internal memory) will be displayed in a much more intuitive and easy to assimilate for the user. The price of the entire package, Sequoia + one year subscription to the software, is U.S. dollar 3.500.
