Convert your SNES cartridges to rom format with Arduino MEGA

Cartridge reader

On this website as well as on many other websites we talk about forks, developments and old game console projects or retro game consoles. This is thanks in part to Free Hardware, but if we do something like this it is mainly due to wanting to play old video games, but How do we do it?

At the end the user always tends to transgress the legal and use illegal roms of old video games but they are copyrighted. That is why the project that I bring you becomes even more important for these gamers because it allows the old SNES and NES64 cartridges can have a second life through the copy of the rom. This copy will allow us to use video games in emulators and not violate the Law since the backup for private use on our property is allowed.

In this case a user named Sanni has created a gadget based on Arduino MEGA that allows you to read old SuperNintendo and Nintendo 64 cartridges. The gadget not only reads the cartridges but also copies them and automatically passes them to a sd or microsd card. In addition, the entire process can be seen on a screen, although this is small for reasons of space.

In any case, as you can see in this video, the adapter is not only functional but it is quite portable, being possible to take it anywhere and just you need the cartridge and microsd card to save the roms we have created.

The only downside that I see with this project is that it needs many extensions for Arduino MEGA to perform the conversion, it may be faster through Raspberry Pi, in any case everything necessary as well as the software code for Arduino MEGA to do we have the conversion in the sanni repository, something that is public.
