A few days ago a Kickstarter campaign created by the company Rabid Prototypes was launched that aims to get funding for a smart screen called Pixel 2.
This screen has nothing to do with Raspberry Pi, but it can be an interesting complement to such a device as well as it can be a device to use without any other hardware. And is that Pixel 2 is more than just a color screen, it is as they call, a smart display
Pixel 2 schematics and information will be totally free
Pixel 2 is a 1,5 inch LCD screen to which they have added an Arduino board. This union allows us not only to connect Pixel 2 to any device but also to work independently. Pixel 2 has a slot for microsd cards as well as a microusb port which can function as a power stream or as a communication port. Both elements allow us to pass data to the screen and to be displayed without the need for another device.
Pixel 2 is a totally free screen, which is supposed to be when distributed We will be able to know the drivers, diagrams and elements of Pixel 2 allowing the total reproduction of this accessory. However, there will be users who will prefer to buy the accessory in question and not build it. At the moment this cannot be done as it is in a crowdfunding campaign.
The campaign is being a success and they have already raised almost double the money that is needed. This means that from June 2017 this accessory will be distributed and can be purchased from this date.
Pixel 2 is not an ordinary lcd screen and its price will not be ordinary either. Taking into account the information of the campaign, Pixel 2 will cost $ 75. A bit high but reasonable price if we consider that the screen is smart. In any case, there are cheaper alternatives that can be perfectly adapted to our designs, but Could they be just as interesting?
