PIXEL is now available for PC and Mac

PIXEL

If you are Raspberry Pi users, you will surely know all, or almost all, of the advantages that installing PIXEL as the operating system on your card. After the great success achieved with this operating system, its developers have decided to take the leap and make it available for other platforms, specifically for PC and Mac.

As you are probably thinking, this step has been much easier than it seems, especially if we consider that the hardware of the Raspberry Pi where PIXEL is running is Linux based. Thanks to this, the system is compatible with different variants of the operating system itself, although the main kernel will always be PIXEL, a environment for Raspbian which was presented a few months ago, specifically in September 2016.

PIXEL is now available for x64 platforms

Going into a little more detail, PIXEL is basically a GNU / Linux distribution that stands out especially for being very light so it can run without too much trouble on any old computer that doesn't have too many resources. The most interesting thing about PIXEL is that, thanks to the fact that it does not need too many resources, we can have a clean and modern user interface, a productive software suite, programming tools and even a browser with useful plugins working fluently on a computer that, perhaps we no longer used because of its slowness and heaviness.

With all this in mind, it is not surprising that its developers did not want to limit the use of PIXEL to the Raspberry Pi but, as just announced, this operating system will also be able to work on x64 platforms so it can be installed directly on computers that previously worked with Windows or Mac as well as on any other machine where, at least, we have 512 MB RAM.

As a detail, tell you that, at least for now, this new version of PIXEL is in its prototype phase Therefore, if you decide to download the latest version and run it, you may run into the odd bug, nothing worrisome at the moment since that same bug will surely be repaired in the coming weeks.
