Pixie, a smartwatch that is electronic but not intelligent

Pixie

In the last months many tech companies have launched their smartwatches, smart watches, watches that are having a great reception. Many users have also tried to reproduce their own smartwatch with Hardware Libre, something they have achieved without a doubt.

However Pixie is not a smartwatch to use rather it is a smartwatch that does not have any smart function like gyroscope or bluetooth communication. It will also not have a next-generation OLED screen or mind-blowing software that beats Android Wear, but it is still a full-fledged geek watch.

Pixie is built with Arduino Pro Mini and colored LED lights

Pixie is a clock built with an Arduino board, this Arduino board does not have sensors or a wide autonomy but has the same design as any Arduino Mini board or Arduino UNO but to which a firmware has been incorporated that allows to control led lights depending on the time. Thus, there will be a color for seconds, minutes and hours that will light up based on the real time. With this configuration, the user has placed the LED lights in a circular position so that it appears that it is a normal wristwatch with electronic and digital elements.

Pixie is built with affordable items within reach of all budgets, something that undoubtedly means that we can all build such a watch. In addition, its construction guide is public as well as its code and any you can download it and build one like smartwatch.

The positive thing about Pixie, like many other projects, is the range of possibilities that Pixie opens up to the expert user, being able to include sensors or other elements that combined with the LED lights offer a solution adapted to the need and also not having to pay more than 300 euros or more money to get a brand smartwatch.
