During the last meeting held in the Congress of Deputies, the Popular Party, PP, proposed to the chamber a new non-law proposal with which they seek what they have called 'promote 3D printing of prostheses and diagnostic elements' with the incorporation of qualified engineers within healthcare teamsThese engineers would basically come to be treated under the figure of support personnel.

As he commented Teodoro Garcia, deputy spokesperson of the PP, during his appearance in the Lower House:

What we seek with this non-law proposition is to favor the training of expert engineers in additive manufacturing and 3D printing.

From the PP they seek to strengthen their commitment to 3D printing within the medical sector thanks to proposals such as this week

In this way and as they have pointed out from the PP, with this initiative it is intended to achieve a great boost while directly supporting the entire ecosystem of small and medium-sized Spanish companies that today work within the additive manufacturing sector of the country. According to the deputy:

Three-dimensional printing in hospitals represents a true revolution in the field of medical device design, as it will improve the efficiency and quality of healthcare treatments.

After our visit to the Hospital Gregorio Marañon we have realized that the applications of additive manufacturing represent a great advance in people's health and in the knowledge of the human body.

Among the advantages offered by this type of process, it should be noted that the manufacture of these products is not more expensive, that they can be more personalized without taxing the process and that it enables the competitive manufacture of short series of products without increasing their cost. In addition, the parts can be easily modified throughout the life of the patient to suit their personal circumstances.

These characteristics represent a true revolution in the field of design of medical devices and provide a wide creative freedom to manufacture any object created by the human imagination.
