Pylos, a new methodology that seeks to bring 3D printing to the construction sector

Pylos

Many are the companies and especially research and development centers that, thanks to interesting financing and future expectations, are trying to revolutionize the construction sector by making 3D printing finally reach it, being able to build any type of structure in a single job.

This time I would like to talk to you about technology Pylos, which has been developed by the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia. Apparently, as those responsible for it, the idea came from a research project whose objective was to create a new 3D printing technique for construction that would do use of natural and biodegradable materials that, in addition, could be reused.

Pylos is a technology where you try to bet on the use of natural materials in construction.

Going into a little more detail, one of the characteristics that most attracts the attention of Pylos technology is that, instead of trying to modify the material to give it shape, it is this that shapes the technology itself. In the first phase of the project it has been achieved that the material used has up to three times more tensile strength than industrial clay. On the other hand, it should be noted that this clay has not been ordered so, once used, it can be reused to create another structure or simply return to nature.

On the other hand and before leaving you with a couple of videos where you can see all this new technology in operation, it should be noted that the Institute of Advanced Architecture of Catalonia has also been collaborating in parallel with the development of Pylos technology with companies such as Tecnalia. Thanks to this, the robot of the latter has been evolved, baptized as CoGiro to create the largest monolithic piece of the project, as well as in the evolution of the project On Site Robotics, where they work to demonstrate that joining robotics and 3D printing can contribute to the development of what is known as automated construction.
