Raspberry Pi seeks schools to test its weather station

Weather Station

Although a few days ago we received the new Raspberry Pi 2, it seems that it will not be the only novelty that the Raspberry Pi Foundation presents this year. A short time ago it was announced from the official website that The testing period for the meteorological station that is being built around the most famous pcb board of the moment opens.

The project was born more than a year ago after Oracle's interest in the idea. Thus, Oracle provided a large amount of money for a team to be in charge of building a weather station with a raspberry Pi or something similar that would allow the little ones to enjoy and learn from the whole process.

Well, the meteorological station has already been built and right now a selection process has been opened for schools to help with the testing period. In total, about a thousand units of this design have been put into play so that schools can experiment and provide their feedback.

The weather station built is based on the Raspberry Pi design but with some alterations that have allowed both the board and the sensors to be divided into two small boxes so that both the school and the child can handle it well.

Raspberry Pi Weather Station is sponsored by Oracle

In addition, a small modification has been included that will use current through the network cable, in such a way that the board will be fed through the cable and will also use it to communicate the collected data.

As we read in the news from the official website, the selection process seems to have no space limit, so beforehand any school in the world could give it a try, so if anyone is interested, in this link you can find the enrollment application.

The idea of the project to build a weather station is based more on children learning how to manage a database and how weather is taken than for schools to have their own weather station.
