Last week a new version of Raspbian was released. This version introduced Debian Stretch as the base of the operating system, thus replacing Debian Jessie. The new update will not only introduce the Debian Stretch changes but also introduce the bug fix that exists for the Broadcom processor that is in the latest Raspberry Pi models.
So the update of this operating system is important but for now, unless we do something, we will continue to have Raspbian Jessie as an operating system.
Currently we can get Raspbian Stretch in two ways. One of them is to go to the official website of Raspberry Pi y download the official image to use Raspbian Stretch. This method is effective but it is also true that it is slower and more tedious than the second method. The second method is to use Raspbian update tools. This method is faster and we will not need to make backup copies or move files from one place to another.
To go to Raspbian Stretch we have to open the terminal and write the following:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade
Once the update has finished, we have to continue updating so that the solutions that have recently been released on bugs that have appeared are applied. To do this, from the same terminal, we have to write the following:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
This will install the latest updates released for the operating system. Debian Stretch will be present from now on Raspbian and we will have, among other things, changes such as updated software or new versions of applets and libraries that our Pixel desktop will use. Raspberry Pi has optimized this version of Raspbian so our board and the rest of the hardware will not worsen their performance, but quite the opposite. So Why not update Raspbian?
