Renault Sport wants to bring 3D printing to Formula 1

Renault Sport

Renault Sport, the division of high-performance vehicles of the French manufacturer that gives its name to it, taking advantage of the celebration of an event of worldwide repercussion such as the Shanghai Motor Show, has presented what they themselves have called RS 2027, a prototype of how the firm believes that the Formula 1 vehicles of the future can be.

Among the most interesting features of it, as you can see on the screen, highlight the commitment that Renault Sport designers and engineers make when designing, for example, a complete closed cabin to offer greater safety to the pilots, an option that is still being studied and that Renault would have already designed helping to manufacture different 3D printing techniques.

RS 2027

Renault Sport wants to bring 3D printing to the manufacture and design of components for Formula 1 prototypes.

This is not the only component that would be manufactured using 3D printing since, as the manufacturer himself showed a few weeks ago, they are ready to start using this type of technology in the manufacture of certain parts for engines of their vehicles thus achieving, as they themselves commented, reduce the weight of certain elements thereby increasing the speed of the vehicle.

Regarding the characteristics of a vehicle like the one you see on the screen, it should be noted that the RS 2027 has been equipped with a hybrid V6 engine equipped with kinetic energy regeneration systems to produce up to 500 kW (four times more than Formula 1 cars). current) to be able to deliver 1 megawatt of power, something that is equivalent to about 1.300 horses, an inordinate power for a prototype whose weight is 600 kilograms.

In statements of Cyril Abiteboul, CEO of Renault Sport Racing:

One of the roles of Renault Sport Racing is to anticipate the future of Formula 1 to attract a maximum of fans in an environment consistent with the objectives of the Renault Group. We hope to generate inspired conversations with the racing community, fans and enthusiasts through this concept that highlights our ideas and wishes.
